Katrina's Therapy Approaches
We believe in utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches to deliver the most effective care possible. Our clinicians are skilled in a variety of treatment modalities.

EMDR is an evidence based therapy that helps people heal from distressing life experiences, emotions, and trauma. Through eye movements or tapping the brain is able to heal from past pain. Most clients report a noticeable change in as little as 1-3 sessions.

This is a fantastic therapy alternative for individuals that are not comfortable talking about their feelings or past.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed to help individuals who struggle with intense emotional and behavioral issues, substance use disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, chronic suicidal ideation, and borderline personality disorder.

This therapeutic approach focuses on teaching skills to manage overwhelming emotions and improve interpersonal relationships.

Internal family systems (IFS) therapy views the mind of being made up of different parts, like a family. Each part has it’s own thoughts, feelings, and roles. i.e. think of the movie “Inside Out.” We all have a core “Self” that is calm, courageous, creative, compassionate, and connected to self and others. In IFS you will get to know all your parts and understand why and how they are there to help you. All parts are welcome and there is no judgement of any of our parts. Being doing this, the Self can help heal the parts that are hurting and bring balance to your internal family.
Acceptance and commitment therapy is a form of psychotherapy, as well as a branch of clinical behavior analysis. It is an empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies along with commitment and behavior-change strategies to increase psychological flexibility.

Attachment-based therapy applies to interventions or approaches based on attachment theory, originated by John Bowlby.

Attachment styles are patterns of how people form and maintain relationships based on their early interactions with caregivers. The main attachment styles are:

Secure attachment:

-Characteristics: Comfortable with intimacy and independence, trusting and balanced in relationships

-Origins: Developed from consistent, responsive caregiving

Anxious-Preoccupied Attachment:

-Characteristics: Craves closeness, often worries about the relationship, and may seem needy or clingy

-Origins: Developed from inconsistent caregiving where attention and affection were unpredictable

Dismissive Avoidant Attachment:

-Characteristics: Prefers independence, avoids intimacy, and can appear emotionally distant or aloof.

-Origins: Developed from caregivers who were emotionally unavailable or unresponsive

Fearful- Avoidant (or Disorganized) Attachment:

-Characteristics: Desires closeness, but fears it, often experiences mixed feelings and confusion in relationships

-Origins: Developed from caregivers who were erratic, abusive, or frightening, leading to a lack of coherent strategy for dealing with relationships

These attachment styles influence how individuals approach relationships, deal with intimacy, and respond to conflicts and separations.

Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps individuals after a traumatic event. Key elements include: -Psychoeducation -Emotion Regulation -Cognitive Coping -Relaxation techniques -Enhancing future safety
The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy based on the extensive research by Dr. John and Julie Gottman into what makes a relationship work and what causes them to fail. Goals of the the Gottman method : -Strengthen friendship and intimacy -Constructive conflict resolution -Create shared goals and values
EFT approaches are based on the premise that human emotions are connected to human needs, and therefore emotions have an innately adaptive potential that, if activated and worked through, can help people change problematic emotional states and interpersonal relationships.
Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client centered, directive counseling approach for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence.
